Be a leader for all generations

Do you want to be a leader?

If you want to be a leader for all generations, you should know that in 2020 there will be 5 generations in companies.

According to the study of Consulting HDO and L'impossible University, from that year, Traditionalists, Baby Boomer, Generation X, Generation y, and Generation Z will share the work environment.

The largest group will be the millennials that will represent 47.99% of the workforce, followed by Generation X with 28.65%, the baby boomer with 12.74%, generation Z with 5.45% and the traditionalists with 4.44%.

This fact will not only bring more diversity, but also labor competition and the challenge of a good coexistence.

Be a leader for all generations

To become a true leader and be successful in this new business scenario, here are some tips:

Know the different generations present in your organization

Each generation has its own qualities, and even within a single generation, not everyone has to be equal to its stereotype.

Analyzing is each generation will help you understand why they act as they do and what their interests are.

Know your needs

It should be obvious to people in leadership positions that listening and understanding the needs of their leaders is key to motivating them and leading them to success.

Rate the contribution of each generation

If you analyzed the characteristics of each generation and know their needs, you should also give value to the unique contribution of each generation.

You should not prioritize technological knowledge, about experience or vice versa.

Understand that they are all different, but they all add value

Encourages the exchange of ideas

Generating work tables to share ideas can be very useful because you will see that each generation has a unique view on the same topic, and this diversity can generate ideas and solve very novel problems.

Generates multi-generation equipment

Having teams of different generations can be an added value for organizations. While it is true that coexistence will be a challenge, all generations can be enriched by the knowledge of the other.

And we all know that if our teams acquire new skills, they will be more effective.

Balance your skills

Another point is important to learn to balance the skills of different generations, since one can better for some tasks than for others.

Surely traditionalist generations find it easier to make decisions, based on their experience and a millennial plus some creative work.

Become a situational leader

Although you can have a more marked leadership style or that you prefer, it is important that you can adapt to each situation. Situations and different people require a leadership style adapted to them.

Flexibility will be your ability to develop.
